A sofa bed seems ready until you start looking for a pillowcase, blanket and somewhere to put a phone. Prepare before your guest arrives even if the bed itself cannot be opened until later. Check its operation and the manufacturer's instructions; midnight is a poor time to discover a missing part. Also measure the walking space left when it is open.
Gather a correctly sized sheet, cover, required pillowcases and a clean towel in a basket or dry container. An extra blanket can remain nearby without being imposed on the bed. The basket need not be decorative: its main purpose is to prevent searches through several cupboards. Make sure every piece of linen is fully dry before grouping it together.
Provide what a daytime room lacks
Offer a small stable surface for glasses, a book or a drink, away from electrical devices. Show your guest the relevant light switch and the route to the bathroom. A lamp reachable from bed is more convenient than a ceiling light controlled at the far end of the room.
Ask straightforwardly about particular bedding or space needs rather than making assumptions. Explain where personal belongings can go and where there is an accessible socket. Do not run an extension cable through the nighttime walking route. If the living room must be used early in the morning, mention this beforehand instead of beginning to tidy around a sleeping person.
Give displaced sofa cushions and decorative objects a planned location. Stacking them in front of a door merely moves the obstruction. Part of the basket may hold used linen after departure, but do not mix clean items with damp towels.
After the visit, restore the bed and wash linen according to its care instructions. Notice what was genuinely missing: perhaps another towel or a place for a bag, but not necessarily a new collection of accessories. A comfortable welcome often depends on a few accessible details and a clearly explained arrangement rather than a perfectly styled bedroom. Refill the container only once everything is clean and dry.
